NHACDA All-Member Meeting, Friday Apr 13, 2012

   NHACDA held an All Member Meeting Breakfast at the NHMEA Annual Spring Conference at the Grappone Center, in Concord, on Friday, Apr.13, 2012. A complimentary continental breakfast was provided for NHACDA members. 33 members attended.

   The meeting began with introductions by President, Jay Chandler. The presentation of the NHACDA 2012 Choral Director of the Year Award was made. A nomination letter was read and the award presented to Madelyn Gearheart. Madelyn is the founder and director of the NH The Board has created this annual award to recognize the efforts of choral directors across the state.

       An excerpt of the nomination letter:

" Madelyn is the founder of the New Hampshire Youth Chorus, based in Durham, and has directed the group for (I believe) twelve years. The Chorus travels to Europe every other year, and participates annually in the Choral Gala at the University of New Hampshire.
Previous to founding the group, Madelyn taught at the elementary and secondary levels in the Manchester School District. Currently, Madelyn is on a sabbatical from the New Hampshire Youth Chorus as her and her husband transition to retirement. She is also the founder of "Opera Viva" in Italy and continues to work with that thriving program. At other points in her career, she has founded choirs for women in prison and worked with choirs on military bases. She has broad experience working to promote and elevate choral music in many areas and on
many levels.
While serving as President of our chapter of ACDA, Madelyn felt strongly about increasing opportunities for choristers and choral directors alike. As such, she was instrumental in getting NH ACDA to collaborate with Plymouth State University to bring Dr. André Thomas to NH for "African American Spirituals and the Freedom Train." Additionally, Madelyn worked to organize several Messiah Sing festivals. Finally, Madelyn has always been willing to collaborate with NHMEA on behalf of ACDA and present sessions at state conferences. "

2012 New England Area ACDA Collegiate Conference Sponsored by NHACDA - Hosted at Keene State College, Sat., Sept. 29th, 2012 from 8:45am-4:00pm

Dear Choral Colleague,

It is my pleasure to invite you and your choral students to New Hampshire for the 2012 New England Area ACDA Collegiate Conference sponsored by NHACDA. This year's conference will be hosted at Keene State College on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 from 8:45am-4:00pm. ACDA collegiate members and non-members who are preparing for a career in choral music education are invited to attend. The conference will offer a wide variety of workshops, panels, an all-sing, and will include lunch with the $10 ($15 - nonmember rate) registration fee. Please see the attached registration for further details.

On behalf of National ACDA, we are thrilled to offer new memberships to ACDA for collegiate non-members for only $5. The National organization has agreed to match state's contribution of $15 for every new membership. Nonmembers who attend the conference will be eligible for this introductory $5 membership rate.

Collegiate chapter advisors and professors are invited to attend the conference free of charge. If you have interest to present a session at this regional conference, please submit the included session proposal form by April 1, 2012.

NH ACDA President - Elect

NHACDA Online Election RESULTS for President-Elect (2011-2013)

The NHACDA Board is pleased to announce the results of the voting during the online election. Dr. Craig Gregory, ACDA Asst. Director for Chapter Liasson, reported that 40% of the eligible NHACDA members (all except student members) cast votes during the open election period. This was an outstanding voter participation.

Esther Ruth Holland Rhoades has been elected NHACDA President-Elect and will serve taking office immediately for the term July 1, 2011 - July 1, 2013 when she will become the President of the Chapter for two years.

Esther has a lot of energy and excitement for choral music. She will add much to the working of our Chapter.

Dr. Daniel Perkins - NHACDA 2011 Choral Director of the Year

   The NH Music Educators Association Annual Spring Conference was held at the Grappone Center. NHACDA has partnered with NHMEA to provide clinic sessions. This year, NHACDA hosted Dr. Michele Holt, Choral Director at UConn.

    At the All-Member Luncheon Meeting, the Board presented the first Annual Award for the NH Choral Director of the Year. The 2011 NH Choral Director of the Year was presented to Dr. Dan Perkins of Plymouth State University. Dan is extremely active in NH choral music, directing choral activities at PSU and conducting the Manchester Choral Society.

    The Board congratulates Dr. Daniel R. Perkins, this year's recipient. In addition to a plaque a letter of congratulations was presented from Dr. Tim Sharp, ACDA, Executive Director.

For the first time in a long time, NH has filled many of its R&S Committees. Our goal is to complete these Committees this fall.

If you have an area of interest and would be willing to serve as that area contact, please contact any Board member. The following committees are open:

Ethnic and Multi-Cultural
